GEM Hospital, Coimbatore launched an Endometriosis Centre in the city to provide comprehensive care for women affected by endometriosis, a condition that affects an estimated 1 in 10 women worldwide.

This clinic that is located inside Gem Hospital, Ramanathapuram was launched by Dr.V.Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women and Swetha Suman IAS, Additional Collector, DRDA-Coimbatore on 21.10.2024 in the presence of Dr.C.Palanivelu, Chairman and Dr.P.Praveen Raj, CEO, Gem Hospital and Dr. Kavitha Yogini D, Head of Endogynecology Department.

Endometriosis is a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It can cause severe pain in the pelvis and make it harder to get pregnant. Approximately 10% to 15% of women during their reproductive years (ages 15-49) are affected by endometriosis. The prevalence of endometriosis among individuals with infertility can be as high as 30% to 50%.
