The Ninth Edition of “ALERT Being” Awards (ABA) was held today to honour and recognise Good Samaritans from various walks of life. ALERT, a voluntary non-profit organization dedicated to making the ‘Right to Life’ a reality in India, organized the award ceremony and presented awards to 17 real-life heroes who have helped save or preserve lives in the following categories: individuals, organizations, and people going beyond the call of duty.
Pavankumar IAS, Collector, Coimbatore and Dr.B K Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Indian Educationist graced the occasion as the Chief Guests.L Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee of PSG Sons & Charities was the Distinguished Guest of Honour. They gave away the awards to real-life heroes.
The event was graced by the presence of esteemed members of the Regional Executive Committee of ALERT Coimbatore, Dr. Chandrasekar, Director of Roots; Dr. J S Bhuvaneswaran, Director of PSGSSH; Mr. Saravanan Ranganathan, MD, Sandfits Foundries Pvt. Ltd.
Conferred by the Board of Trustees of ALERT, The ALERT Being Award for Lifetime Achievement was presented to the Nobel Laureate, Kailash Satyarthi, Founder – Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion; The ALERT Being Organization ICON Award was presented to UYIR from Coimbatore for their incredible work towards making Coimbatore an accident free city; The ALERT Being Individual ICON Award was presented to Padma Sunitha Krishnan, an Indian Social Activist and Co-Founder of Prajwala, who works against sex slavery and sexual violence against Women and children.
K P Ramasamy, Chairman, KPR group was conferred the ALERT Eminence Award for his extraordinary journey of resilience, purpose driven leadership, visionary entrepreneurship and championing compassionate capitalism through education.
Selected by the esteemed Jury of ALERT Being Awards out of nominations from across India, the ALERT Being Awards under the Individual category was presented to 10 real-life heroes who put their life at stake to save lives. The Category of Going Beyond Call of Duty was presented to Major Rohit, Indian Army, the real life Rancho who delivered a baby in a railway station and The Trio Doctors Dr.Manoop, Dr.Thomas Peter and Ms.Dhidiya K Thomas who saved Road Traffic Accident victims by performing Tracheostomy in public. Under Organisation Category: Platelet Club from Chennai, Jeeva Shanthy Trust and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Cotton City from Coimbatore and Amazon Seller Services received the awards.
The distinguished members of the ABA Jury are Veena Kumaravel, Founder, Natural Group of Salons: Thiru. Md. Shakeel Akhtar IPS, Chief Information Commissioner, DGP(Retd); Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, Heir Apparent & Dewan to the Prince of Arcot; Dr. J.S. Rajkumar, Chairman and Chief Surgeon, Lifeline Hospitals;Sujith Kumar, Founder, Maatram Foundation and Anandakrishnan, a serial entrepreneur. The event had advisors in Dr. Renuka David, Managing Director,Radiant Medical Services and C.K. Kumaravel, CEO and Co-Founder, Natural Group of Salons.
Mike Muralidharan, Chairman, ALERT, said “With the Good Samaritan Law in place and more colleges coming forth to install the ALERT Golden Army chapters, we aim to generate 1 crore volunteers equipped to save lives.” He went on to state that “At times of an emergency, most people have the heart to help, but do not know how to go about it. The aim is to have more people evangelised in handling emergency response to save precious lives, so that no life is lost for dearth of attention”.
Speaking about the awardees,Kala Balasundaram, Founder Trustee said, “The 9th edition of the ALERT Being Awards is a tribute to the extraordinary spirit of humanity. These heroes didn’t wait for a title or a moment – they stepped up when it mattered most. This is more than a celebration- it’s a movement to make life-saving preparedness, a way of life.”
Speaking on the occasion Rajesh R Trivedi, Co-Founder & Managing Trustee, ALERT said, “It has been an absolute honour for this edition of the ALERT Being Awards to have been held at Coimbatore, a self-made city that exemplifies the sense of compassion and giving. It has been pivotal in ALERTs mission to make Community First Response a Civic Responsibility in India”
