In a significant step towards addressing the healthcare needs of India’s rapidly growing elderly population, Geri Care, a pioneer in integrated eldercare, has launched Coimbatore’s first geriatrician-led Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Long-Term Care Hospital exclusively for senior citizens.

Strategically located at Lakshmi Mills Junction, opposite Lulu Mall, the 100-bed facility has been purpose-built to provide comprehensive healthcare, rehabilitation, and assisted living services for older adults. The centre will also function as a Geriatric Multispecialty Outpatient Clinic, offering services such as ECG, Echocardiography, Ultrasound, Laboratory Diagnostics, Pharmacy, Vaccinations, Physiotherapy, and Rehabilitation.

The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Raja Sabapathy in the presence of chief guests G. Soundararajan and V. Lakshminarayanasamy, alongside Dr. Lakshmipathy Ramesh.

With India’s elderly population projected to exceed 230 million by 2036, the demand for specialized care models beyond conventional hospital settings is increasing rapidly. Experts point out that a major gap exists between acute hospital care and home-based care, particularly for seniors requiring long-term medical supervision, rehabilitation, and assisted living support.

The new facility seeks to bridge this gap by providing a continuum of care under one roof. Services include post-surgical recovery, post-hospitalization care, rehabilitative therapies, dementia care, palliative care, respite care, day-care services, and assisted living, all delivered by healthcare professionals trained specifically in geriatric medicine.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Lakshmipathy Ramesh said the facility was designed to meet the growing need for dedicated eldercare in Coimbatore, a city increasingly recognized as a preferred retirement destination. He emphasized that the centre would provide specialized medical support while giving families confidence that their elderly loved ones are receiving appropriate care in a professional environment.

Dr.Raja Sabapathy highlighted the importance of specialized geriatric care, stating that facilities combining clinical expertise, rehabilitation, and long-term care are becoming essential in modern healthcare. He noted that the new centre fills a critical gap between hospital treatment and home-based recovery.

G.Soundararajan praised the initiative, stating that Coimbatore has a long-standing culture of caring for its people and that a dedicated institution for senior citizens reflects the city’s values. V. Lakshminarayanasamy added that the facility would help ensure elderly citizens can age with dignity while having access to expert healthcare close to home.
