Coimbatore, August 5, 2026: Rao Hospital, Coimbatore’s leading women and children’s hospital, located in RS Puram successfully conducted its “Breastfeeding & Beyond” Awareness Program, bringing together expectant mothers, new mothers and families for an engaging and informative session on breastfeeding, newborn nutrition and infant feeding practices.
Organized in association with FICCI FLO Coimbatore, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi and Inner Wheel Club of Coimbatore the program aimed to educate mothers on the importance of breastfeeding and equip them with practical knowledge to confidently navigate the early months of motherhood.
The session featured expert talks by Dr. K.S. Krishnasamy, Senior Neonatologist & Paediatrician, and Mrs. Baby Shree, Lactation Consultant & Child Nutrition Expert, who addressed common concerns surrounding breastfeeding, newborn feeding patterns, maternal nutrition and the introduction of complementary foods.
Speaking at the event, Dr. K.S. Krishnasamy highlighted that breastfeeding is the gold standard of infant nutrition and plays a vital role in building a baby’s immunity and supporting healthy growth and brain development.
“”Breastfeeding is the gold standard of infant nutrition. In line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, mothers should exclusively breastfeed for the first six months and continue breastfeeding alongside appropriate complementary foods until two years of age or beyond. This simple practice provides lifelong health benefits for both mother and child. Every mother deserves the right guidance and encouragement to make her breastfeeding journey successful,” said Dr. K.S. Krishnasamy.
Mrs. Baby Shree conducted an interactive session on breastfeeding techniques, addressing concerns such as proper latch, feeding positions, milk supply and overcoming common breastfeeding challenges. She also led a special session on “Introduction to Solid Foods: Navigating the Transition,” explaining when and how complementary foods should be introduced while continuing breastfeeding.
“Breastfeeding is not just about feeding a baby; it is about nurturing a lifelong bond between mother and child. With the right support and practical guidance, every mother can breastfeed with confidence, while introducing complementary foods at the right time ensures healthy growth and nutrition,” Mrs.Babyshree said.
Simple Tips from the Experts for Successful Breastfeeding
Begin breastfeeding as early as possible after birth.
Feed the baby on demand rather than following a strict schedule.
Ensure proper positioning and latch to prevent discomfort and improve milk transfer.
Avoid unnecessary formula supplementation unless medically advised.
Stay well-hydrated, eat a balanced diet and seek support early if difficulties arise.
Remember that every breastfeeding journey is unique, and asking for help is a sign of strength, not failure.
Adding to the day’s educational sessions, Dr. B. Suganya Kathir, Senior Consultant Fertility – ObGyn spoke on postnatal cervical cancer vaccination, creating awareness about the benefits of HPV vaccination after childbirth and encouraging women to prioritize preventive healthcare alongside motherhood.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from expectant and new mothers, who actively engaged with the experts, shared their concerns and gained practical insights into breastfeeding and infant nutrition. The interactive session provided reassurance, confidence and valuable take-home guidance for their motherhood journey. As a token of appreciation, every participant received a thoughtfully curated gift hamper.
