The Nilgris police have, on Tuesday, arrested a 40-year-old woman for allegedly killing her husband with the help of her two sons, since he refused to give them his monthly pension money.

According to sources, Kannan (45), retired army soldier from Kalletti, was found dead in his house under mysterious circumstances on December 12. Since he was frequently drunk and often quarrelled with his family members, his death was initially seen as an accident. His family members claimed that he accidentally fell from the stairs, under the influence of alcohol.

But the post mortem, performed at the Ooty Government Hospital, had a different story. It said that Kannan was repeatedly assaulted on his head with an object and the injuries did not match with those that are usually occurs during such falls.

A special team was formed under the District Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha. On investigations, the victim’s widow, K. Gunavathi (40) confessed that she along with her two sons K. Santhoshkumar (27) and K. Vishnu (20) had murdered Kannan by repeatedly hitting his head with a log several times. He was then strangled.

She further told the Pudumund police that she had murdered her husband because he did not give the pension amount to the family and frequently quarrelled with them over many issues.

The Nilgiri police have arrested the Gunavathi and her sons and have lodged them at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
