Rs.15 lakhs demanded as compensation for worker killed in Chennai floods

Ten persons belonging to the Dalit Viduthalai Katchi (DVK) were arrested today when they attempted to stage a demonstration demanding Rs.15 lakhs as compensation to a sanitary worker who was killed during flood relief works in Chennai.

The worker, Palanisamy from Kodumudi in Erode, was killed by asphyxiation when he was involved in cleaning works in Chennai a few days ago. The government announced a solatium of Rs.4 lakhs to his family.

The members of DVK demanded Rs.15 lakhs as compensation and a job for his immediate kin.
