A 40-year old man, undergoing seven years’ imprisonment for the murder of his mother, was today sentenced to undergo life imprisonment for killing his father, some three years ago.

Kanakaraj of Dalavaipalayam of Pollachi used to pick up quarrels with his father Mayilsami with regard to property, and in a fit of rage banged his father’s head with a pick axe in April 2012.

The case was going on in 3rd Additional Sessions court in Coimbatore. Meanwhile, Kanakaraj, who came on bail picked up a quarrel with his mother for property and pushed his mother, who fell into the bathroom, with serious leg and hip injuries, in December 2012.

The mother died a few days later and the case against Kanakaraj was converted to murder from attempt to murder. However, since there was no motive was found for the murder, he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
In the case of the murder of the father, the 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, Karthikeyan ordered Kanakaraj to undergo life sentence and imposed a fine of Rs.5,000.
