A family dispute has turned into a major embarrassment to the Mayor P Rajkumar with his relative accusing the Mayor of usurping Rs 1 crore worth property that belonged to him. Manikkam, the complainant has also sought protection to his life and property in a petition that he handed over to the Commissioner of Police, A Amalraj, today.

The complaint stated that Manikkam of Nallathannithottam, who is reportedly the Mayor’s cousin owned 11 cents of the 47 cents of the ancestral property in the same area. He had moved court seeking partition of the 11 cents and the court had ruled in his favour. Despite the court ruling the land was not handed over to him.

Palanisamy, who is the Mayor’s father had appealed against the judgement in the High Court and the court had pronounced that the litigants should not take up any construction activities on the disputed land and had instructed the land surveyor and the commission to look into the issue.

Meanwhile, even as the judgement holds good till today, the Mayor’s father Palanisamy and mother Bhuvaneshwari had, against the court ruling, demolished the temple on the land belonging to him and had also conducted a bhoomi pooja to commence construction of their building, Manickam alleged.

When he tried to question them, the Mayor and his aides had allegedly threatened him of dire consequences and had tried to attack him. Manikkam in his petition has sought police protection.

Reacting to this Mayor P Rajkumar told Covai Post that the civil dispute has been on for the last 30 years and the case was under trial. Stating that this was politically instigated by his nemesis within the party to malign his reputation, especially with the elections nearing, the Mayor denied the involvement of his family in any kind of construction on the disputed land against court orders. He also stated that the allegations of land grab was false.
