Two female workers died in jeep accident

Two women workers were died and eight others were injured when a carrot-laden pickup jeep in which they were travelling turned turtle near Kakkuchi. The deceased have been identified as Palanimma (45) and Chintamani (42).

10 workers, including six women, were on the jeep loaded with carrots. They were going to clean the carrots at Adacholai from Ebbnanadu, about 40 km from Coimbatore. The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle after running over a dog.

The jeep hit a tree and turned over.

With the help of the general public and the Fire Service, the police managed to rescue eight persons who were seriously injured and sent them to the nearby Government Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of two of the workers who were found missing, were recovered half an hour later.
