With double digit growth year on year, Harley Davidson, motor cycle manufacturers, is expecting to maintain the growth level by expanding its dealership in Tier-Two cities, Harley Davidson India Managing Director Vikram Pawah, said today.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of opening a new dealership here, the 21st in the Country, he noted that the company was expanding its dealer network in tier-two cities, where growth was expected.

Since the beginning of retail operations in India in 2010, there were over 12,000 Harley Davidson motor cycles on Indian roads, the growth for which was attributed to the company’s success in building a strong leisure motor cycle culture, he said.

With 13 models, the company had set up a manufacturing cum assembly unit in Bawal in Haryana, even before the scheme ‘Make in India’ was conceptualised, Vikram said.

When asked about the proposal to come out with lower CC bikes to suit Indian condition, Vikram said that there was no such proposal and in this segment the company had more than 65 per cent market share.

On region-wise strength, he said that South India was an important market for the company and with strong riding culture it has received a phenomenal response from the customers from this region.

“The company and brand are strong and we are better positioned than ever to deliver to our customers and fulfil their dreams of personal freedom,” he said.

Anandakrishnan, the principal owner of the Western Ghats Harley Davidson, said that the dealership here was the second in Tamil Nadu after Chennai and nearly 50 Harley owners would participate in the Founder’s Ride scheduled on Saturday.
