The “Biennial Cadaveric Course on Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty” was organised recently by Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH).

Shoulder and elbow replacements have evolved into greater techniques in the past two decades with better outcome for suffering patients. The first-of-its-kind conference in this part of the country was aimed at updating orthopaedic surgeons treating the relatively uncommon conditions.

It was inaugurated by Dr. Thavamani D. Palaniswami, Vice-Chairperson, KMCH. Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH, presided over.

Dr. Palaniswami said that shoulder injuries in athletes were quite common and could lead to disability due to painful movements. In elders, arthritis of shoulder and elbow joints could lead to crippling disability affecting day-to-day activities. This conference and the workshop on joint replacement of shoulder and elbow would impart knowledge in these areas, which were vital for successful outcome for the patients.

Apart from lectures and interactive sessions, a cadaveric workshop for delegates was also organised at Karpagam Medical College Hospital. This gave hands-on experience on procedures, thus enhancing their knowledge and skills.

Nearly 100 delegates attended.
