The Citizens’ Voice Club (CVC) of Coimbatore will launch an ‘Internet Campaign’ by sending e-mails to the State and Central Governments on Thursday, demanding the speeding up of the broad-gauge work of Coimbatore-Pollachi railway track.

Speaking about the campaign, Isaac Samathanam, President of CVC, said, “The broad gauge work on the 39 KM long railway track between Coimbatore and Pollachi had started about 9 years ago. But it hasn’t been complete yet. As a result, there is no rail connectivity from Coimbatore to various important places including Pollachi, Madurai, Dindigul, Thirunelveli, Ottanchathiram, and Rameswaram. We are going to launch the campaign in order to urge the state and central governments to complete the work as soon as possible.”

As part of the campaign, e-mails will be sent to officials of the Railway Department, and the State and Central Governments with the demand to speed up the broad-gauge work. “Interested persons can register their names with us with their signature for consent, and we will send the e-mails. The public can also send e-mails directly to take part in the campaign,” Isaac said.

The campaign will be launched by the Former Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Science University, Shanmugasundaram, and Ashok Shanmugasundaram, Past District Governor of Lions Club International Coimbatore, at the CVC office at 5.30 PM on Thursday.

The CVC will also organize consumer awareness programme on August 8 and 9 at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam. “We planned to create awareness among the industrialists, students, merchants, and the general public to make the campaign a success,” he added.
