Uber has launched Debit Card payment option for all users across 18 cities including Coimbatore, according to a statement.

Recently, payment using credit card was reintroduced in India for all Android users, in partnership with MobiKwik. Now, users across iOS and Android platforms have the option to pay via Debit or Credit Cards.

Adhering to RBI regulations, there will be a 2-factor authentication flow built into the app and users will have to enter either their Online Banking Pin or their One-Time Password (OTP), to request for a ride using their Debit/Credit Card.

Commenting on the roll-out of Debit Card payments, an Uber Spokesperson said: “At Uber, we are about making transportation as convenient and hassle-free as possible. We are able to give millions of Indians more choice when it comes to paying for their Uber rides. As we continue to focus on our mission to redefine urban mobility in India, riders will have the ability to choose from Debit or Credit Card payments, Paytm (digital wallet), and Cash.”

He also said, “Cash payments are now available to all users in six cities of Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi and Pune.”
