On the day when the city was waiting for the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa to arrive, a Coimbatore-based social worker has filed a petition with the Election Commission, demanding that the elaborate decorations on Avinashi Road be removed.
Around 5000 policemen under five Inspector Generals and one A.D.G.P, were being mobilised ahead of the CM’s visit, and sources close to the AIADMK have revealed that around 12 lakh people were expected to attend the public meeting on Sunday.
“The party authorities expect more than 1 lakh persons from each constituency,” the source claimed.
Meanwhile, mega sized flex cut-outs of the party chief mushroomed on the Avinashi Road from the airport, until the Codissia grounds, where the meeting is to be held.
But, R.M. Selvaraj, a Coimbatore-based social worker has claimed that the more than 10 of these arches were creating trouble to vehicle users and the traffic. In a petition to the Election Commission, Selvaraj has also mentioned that the pavement has also been blocked by partymen to set up banners, and has requested EC to take stern action.
