The Price Forecasting Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies has predicted that the price of good quality coconut will be around Rs.8 to 9 per kilo, and that of dried copra will be around Rs.52 to Rs.54 in May and June.

The forecast is based on the prices of coconut and copra for last 14 years at the Avalpoonthurai regulated market in Erode district.

While Tamil Nadu and Kerala witnessed higher production of coconuts, it was comparatively low in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, due to various factors, including water scarcity. Arrivals of copra from other states were lower than last year.

Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are the leading producers of coconut in the country. Coimbatore is ranked No.1 district in Tamil Nadu in the production of coconuts.
