Joining the State wide protest carried out by various outfits and political parties against the National Eligibilty Entrance Test (NEET), members of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) on Monday protested in front of the South Taluk office in Coimbatore.

The Supreme Court had allowed NEET to be conducted as per schedule on May 1st after a recommendation from the centre regarding the issue.

However, the verdict did not receive positive reception from Tamil Nadu as political parties stated that the standard of education was different here and so students would not be able to compete with CBSE students.

The state also requested that pre scheduled state level exams should be allowed along with NEET to which the apex court has announced that it would hear the plea on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the members of the PDK who protested demanded that the order be revoked and the state be allowed to conduct its own test.

“It is injustice on the part of the Centre to carry on with the test as students from humble backgrounds will not be able to become doctors,” alleged a Ku. Ramakirshnan, Coordinator of PDK, Coimbatore.
