There will be heightened security in and around the city from tomorrow in connection with the visit of high profile political leaders, including a brief halt by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the city airport.

Mr. Modi will be arriving at the airport on Friday around 1.15 p.m. by a special flight to visit neighbouring Kerala for election campaign. He will be transferred to a helicopter and leave for Palakkad in Kerala, some 40 km from here, after spending five minutes, police said.

Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will address an election meeting here on May 7 supporting the DMK-Congress-MMK alliance candidates, they said.

Works for a putting up a large stage are in progress and senior Congress leaders are supervising the arrangements at VOC Park grounds, they said.

Meanwhile, BJP National President Amit Shah is also scheduled to visit the city for an election meeting on the same ground on May 9. BJP and alliance party leaders today carried out an inspection of the venue.

Considering the high profile of the VIPs, the city will be under tight security cover during the three days, police added.
