In order to condemn the recent rape and murder of a young woman in Kerala, two Coimbatore-based NGOs are organizing two events in different locations in the city tomorrow (May 8). One is an awareness event, while the other is a candle-light march.

NGO Ver Foundation is organizing a candle march to protest against sexual harassment and child abuse. We are told that this march will be flagged off from Race Course in the evening. “A few core members and volunteers of our foundation have also decided to observe a fast tomorrow to peacefully protest against the gang rape and murder of the young woman in Kerala,” Vasanth T, founder of Ver Foundation, says. Through the event, Ver Foundation aims at spreading awareness about child abuse too.

In the morning, about 100 members of the Indian Foundation, an NGO that works towards various social causes, have planned a campaign named ‘Fight for Jisha’. “We want justice to be delivered to the victim. Moreover, we want to empower other women to raise their voice against harassment of any kind that they face,” Vidhya Lakshmi, Vice President of Indian Foundation, says. The event is scheduled to take place at a private college tomorrow (May 8) morning.
