The DMK Women Wing Leader and poetess Kanimozhi has assured that the DMK government would function from the new Secretariat which was converted into a hospital by the current AIADMK rule.

Kanimozhi, who was in Coimbatore to campaign for candidates of the DMK-Congress alliance on Saturday along with Rahul Gandhi, said that people should keep Jayalalithaa away just like she kept them away from her.

The AIADMK government had transformed the new Secretariat constructed by the DMK government, into a multi-specialty hospital, and continues to function from the old building at Fort St. George, Chennai.

Calling the AIADMK manifesto as a copycat of the DMK’s, Kanimozhi also said that the only additions were the freebies, which the people did not like. “Already the debts of the state have increased by 80 percent because of the freebies,” she alleged.

She further asked how it would possible to provide 100 units for free to individual households with the state already hiking the power tariff thrice and with the mounting debts.

Kanimozhi reminded the gathering about the welfare schemes promised by the DMK in its manifesto, including waiving of loans of farmers and students and exemption of duty for five years to new businesses. “Farming and industries are hit by large in the state with many farmers committing suicide. Jaya has not fulfilled her promises, including free 20 litres of water, monorail to Coimbatore, and electricity production,” she said.
