Lashing out at the Dravidian parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that BJP would save the people of Tamil Nadu from the clutches of AIADMK and DMK that have alternatively ruled the state for almost five decades.

Referring to the AIADMK and DMK parties, Modi said “Either this or that has been ruling the State. I came here to save the people from the clutches of those two parties”.

Charging the two Dravidian majors of corruption and misgovernance, Modi said that the people wanted a change and BJP was the only able alternative, whose sole aim was development of the people and the region.

“They (AIADMK and DMK) had kept Tamil Nadu under their control. People of the State want to be freed from the corrupt clutches”, Modi said at an election rally in Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district.

Claiming that the corruption has ruined the State, the Prime Minister said the welfare measures would reach the poor only if graft was eradicated.

Asking the electorates whether they get 24 hours uninterrupted power supply, Modi said power supply to households, schools, shops and hospitals continues to be scarce.

“However, the situation is not so in BJP-ruled states as they are focused on power generation”, he said.

Stating that he was first Prime Minister to visit Vedaranyam, Modi said his target is to double the farmer’s income by 2022 when the country will be celebrating 75th year of Independence.

He said his government is for development and his dream is to take the people on the development path and urged the people of Tamil Nadu to vote for BJP and change the fate of the State.

Coming down heavily on the previous Congress-led UPA government on “Corruption is the major issue of the country during their (Congress) period. They did nothing other than looting the country, coal, 2G, CWG and what not”, he added.
