A 40-year old tribal woman, who was attacked by an elephant two days ago, died of the injuries in the Government Hospital, here in Coimbatore.

Saraswati, a resident of Perumalkoilpati tribal colony in Alandurai, was working in the fields on the evening of May 10, when she was attacked by an elephant. She was immediately rushed to the government hospital, but she died this morning, without responding to treatment.

In another incident, a four-year-old spotted deer and a 15-year-old elephant were electrocuted to death, when they came into contact with a snapped live wire in a farm near Mettupalayam. The carcasses of the animals were noticed yesterday morning by the workers of a nearby banana farm in Odanthurai.

The wire had snapped due to heavy wind and rains that lashed the area on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a spotted deer had strayed into the tourist town of Udhagamandalam in the Nilgiris district. It is very unusual for a spotted deer to stray into the town, because they normally move in the forest and fringe areas.

The deer was rescued and released into the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve area.
