SBI official gets ten year rigorous imprisonment

A CBI court has convicted and sentenced a State Bank of India (SBI) Manager to ten years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a cheating case.

When the case came up for hearing, CBI special judge S Ganesan also slapped a fine of Rs 35,000 on K Chandrasekaran, the SBI branch Manager of Kalkulam in Kanyakumari district.

The judge also convicted and sentenced another person — Sindhukumari a customer of SBI, to seven years RI in the same case. A fine of Rs 13 lakh was also imposed on Sindukumari.

The Anti Corruption Branch of CBI, Chennai investigated case against Chandrasekaran and Sindhukumari.

The allegation was that during the year 2006 to 2008, Chandrasekaran sanctioned loans to Sindhukumari without obtaining proper securities and not following the norms of the bank and thus caused a total loss of Rs 66,31,419 to SBI.
