Annual research seminar on birds tomorrow

The annual research seminar and alumni meet of Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) will be held in Coimbatore tomorrow.

The presentations made by the researchers and faculty members of the centre on projects undertaken by them will provide platform for discussing the outcome of the studies, Sacon Director Dr. K. Sankar said. The management implications of these projects will be discussed with various stakeholders like the state Forest Department officials, members of various committees of the Centre, eminent scientists, and conservationists, he said.

Papers include impacts of wind power generation on select faunal components of a dry deciduous forest in Harapanahalli, Karnataka, impact of wind turbines on the avifauna of Samakhiali, Kutch Gujarat, and effects of environmental contaminants on the ecology and breeding biology of Gyps vultures in India, he said.
