The Pinkathon celebrations took an embarrassing turn when several participants fell into the Cooum river after the wooden bridge on which they had assembled, collapsed today. Fortunately, the slush was only knee-deep and most of the marathon runners managed to wade through the dirty waters on their own.

Pinkathon was an all-women marathon organized in Chennai for raising awareness about cancers that affect women. More than hundred women, including 32 lady cadets of the Officers Training Academy (OTA), signed up to participate in the 5 km marathon.

Trouble began when the organizers began assembling the participants on the wooden bridge over the river Cooum. The bridge collapsed when it couldn’t bear the weight anymore.

The police have registered a case and investigations are on.

The marathon however went on.
