Centre for mentally challenged to be opened

City-based ‘Kongunadu Mananala Arakattalai’ would open a day care centre for mentally challenged people. The centre, to be opened on June 12, will have 48 beds.

Giving details, the trust chairman Dr. Pradeep said the centre would provide occupational therapy to patients and also give vocational training like jewellery making, painting, plate making depending upon their conditions.

“They will also be given training to improve their speaking skills, language, communication and interactive skills and vocabulary,” he added.

The main objective of the trust was to bring those with mental illness out of their ‘dark world’.

The Chennai-based Schizophrenia Research Foundation has also joined hands with the trust by sponsoring the centre. A special employment exchange would also be established to help those who need jobs. “They will be helped in getting employments according to their capability.”

The trust was willing take care as much people as possible, provided the government extended financial support, Dr. Pradeep said.
