Standing testimony to allegations that lake bunds are increasingly being used by anti-social elements for illegal activities, a group of students, along with NGO representatives, have collected a whopping 4000 liquor bottles from the bunds of the Singanallur lake in Coimbatore, on Sunday.

Around 55 students and members of various NGOs gathered on the lake to collect the discarded liquor bottles on the bunds.

“We cleaned up plastic wastes last week in the lake and found that there were also liquor bottles. So, we planned an exclusive drive to clean liquor bottles,” said one of the volunteers.

Members of more than six organizations, including Animal Rescuers, Green Global Trust, Green Global Trust, Agni Siragugal, and Sixth Sense Foundation, along with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation participated in the cleaning drive.

The organisers have said that they would continue the drive in the coming days and clear out as much as waste as possible. They had, June 5, cleaned plastic wastes from the lake on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
