The Coimbatore chapter of the Retailers Association of India (RAI) hosted their second Kongu Next Gen Retailers meet in the city recently. About 40 heads of various retail chains attended the meeting.

Chief guest T. Thanushgaran, Chairman and Managing Director, Sri Kannan Departmental Store (P) Ltd., addressed the gathering. He spoke on ‘The right way to retail success.’ This was followed by a presentation from members of the corporate house, GainInsights.

RAI’s CEO, Kumar Rajagopalan said, “There is a need to look at retail as a driver for the nation’s economy and address all aspects through comprehensive retail trade policy. Three states in our country, namely Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, have already announced retail policies for their respective states that address aspects over and above our laws, such as skill development and development of retail and entertainment zones.”

Press release from RAI, said that the centre has passed a rule that allows retail outlets across the country to have their retail store open 24 hours a day. He also added that retail stores in Coimbatore are taking a closer look at this option. He added that once issues like manpower are sorted out, we can expect a few retail outlets in our city to function around the clock.
