Arrest warrants issued against Vijayakanth, wife

The Tirupur district court today issued arrest warrant against DMDK leader Vijayakanth and his wife, Premalatha Vijayakanth for not appearing before it in connection with a defamation case, for speaking against the Tamil Nadu chief Minister, a few months ago.
The district Public Prosecutor, K.N. Subramaniam had filed a case before Principal District court in Tirupur against both the leaders for making derogatory remarks against Jayalalithaa at a public rally in Palladam on November 6, 2015.
The case came up for hearing this morning, but Vijayakanth and Premalatha failed to appear personally before court, following which Judge Alamelu Natarajan issued arrest warrants against them.
The couple had failed to appear in the case in three earlier hearings.
