The principal and district sessions court in Thanjavur issued arrest warrant against DMDK headquarters speaker Jayakumar for his failure to appear in the court today in connection with a libel case.

Public prosecutor Kuppusamy had filed the libel case against former DMDK MLA Parthasarathi and Jayakumar in the principal and district sessions court on October 4, 2013.

In his petition, Kuppusamy, alleged that Parthasarathi and Jayakumar, had made defamatory remarks against the state government and criticized the government policies in a public meeting at Kabisthalam on April 4, 2013. The two had also made remarks against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa so as to bring disrepute to her name and fame, he alleged and demanded action against the two for making defamatory remarks.

While Parthasarathi appeared today in the court, Jayakumar did not. Subsequently, judge Nakkheeran issued arrest warrant against Jayakumar and posted the next hearing to September 30.
