Woman murdered, husband critically injured over land dispute

A woman was killed and her husband seriously injured over a land dispute at Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district last night.
According to police, Thirumurugan, residing at Middle Street in Sathanur village, had a dispute over a land with his neighbour, Senthilkumar, for a long time.
A quarrel broke out between the two last night. In a fit of rage Senthilkumar and his brother Chinnasamy attacked Thirumurugan and his wife Illavarasi with an iron rod indiscriminately. The couple were rushed to the Thirukattupalli government hospital. As their condition worsened, they referred to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, where Illavarasi was declared brought dead.
Based on a complaint, Maruvur police have registered a case and arrested Senthilkumar and Chinnasamy for murdering Illavarasi.
