The members of the Tamil Nadu Person with Disabilities Association staged a demonstration on Friday at the Secretariat, demanding that the state government immediately pass an amendment enabling even persons with 40 percent disabilities to enjoy the various benefits.

As many as 40 members of the organisation gathered near the South Taluk Office, and claimed that, despite the Chief Minister’s announcement in the Assembly, under Rule 110, that an amendment would be made, it had not been implemented yet.

“When we approach the district offices seeking benefits, the officers simply say that they have not received any information from the government, and we were left to run from pillar to post,” said a protester.

The members further demanded that the benefit fund be raised from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000. They also said that the children of differently-abled parents be given scholarships to continue education.
