Government employees stage demonstration

Thanjavur: The members of Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association today staged demonstration at 40 places across the district today demanding, among other things, the re-implementation of the previous pension scheme.

The protesters called for scrapping of the contributory pension scheme and urged the state government to restore the old pension scheme. The employees also called for the constitution of a disputes resolution council, constitution of a pay commission for state government employees, and regularization of the discrepancies in pay on par with central government employees. The protesters also demanded that the government implement the medical insurance for government employees through a government insurance company constituted for the purpose.

TNGEA district president Mathiazhagan led the agitation before the Panagal building in Thanjavur. The state vice-president Gothandapani, district secretary A. Rangasamy, and district vice-president Ravichandran were among the participants.
