Thanjavur: Unidentified burglars entered the house of Govindaraj, a retired Village Administrative Officer, at Kattur village near Thanjavur, in the wee hours today, and decamped with jewels weighing 16 sovereigns, silver ornaments, and Rs. 5,000 cash.

The burglars gained entry into the house by breaking open the lock on the front door. Govindaraj and his family members were fast asleep in the house at the time of burglary. The burglars broke open the bureau and took away the jewels kept in it. They also took away four ATM cards and Rs. 5,000 from Govindaraj’s shirt hanging in one of the rooms.

The burglary was discovered when Govindaraj woke up early in the morning. He was shocked to find the clothes kept in the bureau lying strewn on the floor.

The Thanjavur taluk police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
