The Do It Yourself group would conduct training session for women in making bags, purses and candles at a two-day workshop from September 10.

Giving details, the founder of Do It Yourself group, Lakshmi. D, said the workshop would be conducted by a trained professional from Chennai. “Participants can learn how to make a handbag, purse, cushion or gel candle. The material will be provided by us,” she said.

Loated at RS Puram, Do It Yourself trains women in tailoring during the week days and in other forms of art and craft during the week ends. “The aim is to empower women by training them to develop and master an art that they are interested in,” she added.

DIY began its operations this July and their tailoring institute, National Computer and Fashion Technology (NCFT), also opened in July this year.

Lakshmi, an active member of NGO WOBEDA, wanted to reach out to women and empower them. “Till date we have hosted cookery classes and jewel making workshop,” Lakshmi said. Women were taught how to how to make pizzas at home in the first workshop and in the second workshop they were taught how to make jewellery.
