Ooty: An estate worker was seriously injured today, when he was attacked by an elephant in Pandalur about 80 kilometres from Ooty.

42-year-old Muthiah was going to the estate this morning and was surprised to see an elephant standing at some distance. As he took to heels in fear, the elephant chased him and hit him with its trunk, resulting in injuries on the abdomen and leg. However, he managed to escape from the pachyderm.

Some villagers who noticed Muthiah, took him to the Government hospital in Pandalur, from where he was shifted to Gudalur Government Hospital.

Considering the nature of his injury, he was referred to the Government Hospital in Coimbatore and was being taken there, the police said.
