Students, who help aggrieved citizens write their petitions at the Coimbatore District Collectorate on Mondays, are forced to stand and write as they are not provided with tables or chairs to sit and write.
Four girl students of a private college in the city, who volunteered to write petitions for the old and the illiterate, were found standing in sunlight and writing the letters. They are forced to sit on tiny slabs, dirty pavement, or wherever possible.
According to one of the student-volunteers, students are sent from the college each week by their respective departments to voluntarily help those in need. “The officials provide us with pens and paper to write the petitions,” said a student. But, they were not given chairs to sit and write these petitions down.
Reacting to this, an official from the administration said that they would make the necessary arrangements in future.
