Life in a gated community is not necessarily another day in paradise, as residents of one such posh residential projects near Ondipudhur have petitioned the District Administration citing the lack of even basic facilities, despite paying the full amount.

About 40 owners of the villas and flats in the Springfield Rivera and members of the Springfield Rivera Owners’ Association on Monday petitioned Collector TN Hariharan complaining of lapses in the construction.

“There are around 59 villas and 74 flats in the project and are priced between Rs. 50 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore. All the owners have paid full amount to the promoter and yet even basic amenities have not been completed,” said one of the owners.

He further added that the promoter had promised facilities like clubhouses, swimming pool, indoor gym/outdoor games provision, theatres, commercial complexes, parks, underground drainage and sewage treatment plant, but none of these exist in reality.

They owners further complained that there was no security provided to them as there was no CCTV installed in the premises. “Since construction is still on, there are people wandering about frequently. They even bathe in the tanks near the houses, wearing almost nothing. We are afraid of the security provided,” complained another resident.

They further alleged that the promoter did not even respond when they tried to contact him to address these issues.

The Covai Post tried to contact the representatives of the Springfield Rivera for their side of the story, but they were not reachable.
