Members of the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) today staged a demonstration in front of the Coimbatore District Collectorate seeking protection for their leaders. They alleged that the police have not made any progress in the investigation nor arrested the culprits, despite repeated attacks on them.

“The lives and properties of our leaders are constantly under threat and the Government has been very silent on the issue. Even the police are lethargic,” a member said.

Many leaders, including party president Arjun Sampath, were attacked. “A petrol bomb was hurled at his house recently. A bike was torched in Coimbatore, a Ganesh statue was set on fire and an auto rickshaw was torched near Peelamedu and another car belonging to a senior leader was also burnt. We are afraid that more such incidents might occur,” he added.

The members urged the police to nab the miscreants and charge them for sedition. They also submitted a petition to the district administration.
