Jaya flags off 200 new buses

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today flagged off 200 new buses here meant for State transport undertakings.

Among the 200 buses, worth Rs. 45.42 crores, were three ladies special services meant for her Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency, an official press release said.

The ladies special service was launched following requests from the local people, it said. The Chief Minister also gave away 25 jeeps purchased at a cost of Rs.1.46 crores for the Transport Department.

According to the release, the Government has been launching new buses, introducing new routes and starting new depots to fulfill the needs of the people. Out of the 200 buses, 118 are for Metropolitan Transport Corporation, including three for RK Nagar, 11 for Villupuram, 4 for Salem, 16 for Coimbatore, two for Kumbakonam, 12 for Madurai and 37 for Tirunelveli.

Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabaskar, Chief Secretary P. Rama Mohana Rao, Adviser to the State Government Sheela Balakrishnan, Transport Secretary Chandrakant Kamble and MTC Managing Director V. Krishnamoorthy were present.
