Inspector held for Rs. 3.9 crore robbery, search on for two more personnel

Police today claimed to have solved a robbery case, in which Rs.3.9 crores was looted by a gang after waylaying a Kerala-bound car, a month ago in the city.

An inspector of police was arrested and search was on for two more police personnel. All the three have been placed under suspension.

The car was proceeding to Malappuram in Kerala, after collecting money for the gold ornaments sold in Chennai when a five member-gang -three in police uniform, asked them to stop the car to carry out a search around 4.30 a.m. on August 25.

They asked the four inmates of the car – Sisas, Anand, Mushir and Mohammed Ibrahim, to get into their van, while two of the gang members, followed the van in the car. All the four were asked to get down at Pollachi Road Junction and the gang members fled with the cash and car, which was later found abandoned in Thrissur.

On information, Anwar, the businessman in Malappuram arrived at Madukkarai police station and lodged a complaint.

Investigation led to the arrest of Subash and Sadiq of Malappuram and Sugesh of Guruvayur, who disclosed the role of police personnel in the robbery. They also confessed that Rs. 2 crores were taken by the personnel and remaining were divided among them, police said.

Accordingly, inspector Muthukumar of Paramathi in Karur district was arrested, while Kulithalai inspector, Saravanan and head constable, Dharmendran were at large.
