Rs 43 lakh insurance compensation for accident victim’s wife

Thanjavur: The Motor Accident Case Claims Tribunal in Thanjavur today ordered the Kumbakonam branch of National Insurance Company to pay a compensation of nearly Rs 43 lakh to the wife of the assistant divisional engineer of the Highways Department, who died in a road accident in Thanjavur in 2010.

According to the prosecution, 56-year-old Kaliyaperumal was driving on Sachidananda Moopanar Road on July 4, 2010, when a private bus hit his scooty. Kaliyaperumal, who sustained grievous injuries died a few hours later in a private hospital in Trichy. His wife Valarmathi, 53, filed a petition before the tribunal asking for insurance compensation.

Principal Sub Judge Poornajaya Anand, delivering his verdict in the case yesterday, ordered National Insurance Company’s Kumbakonam branch manager to pay a compensation of Rs 42.9 lakh to Valarmathi.
