Two female tuskers, aged around 6 and 20, were found dead in two days in the Bhavanisagar Forest Range in the district, forest officials said on Sunday.

A female calf was found lying dead in Bhoothikuppai forest area in Bhavanisagar forest range on Thursday, officials said. Apparently, the calf had died of an ailment and no foul play was suspected in its death.

On Saturday, the officials noticed another female elephant aged around 20, caught in the marsh and slush in the same area. The officials along with a veterinary doctor examined the dead elephant and stated that while going to the Moyar River for water, the elephant must have been caught in the slush at the river bank and result suffocated to death.
