AIADMK worker attempts self-immolation, in critical condition

Depressed over Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s health, an AIADMK worker in Thanjavur set himself ablaze today and battling for life in hospital.

Raveendran, 49, resident of Mela Kuruvikkara Street in Karanthai, is the party’s deputy secretary in the corporation’s second ward. Upset over Jayalalithaa’s health and her hospitalisation, he poured petrol over himself and set himself ablaze at his house.

Raveendran, who suffered severe burns, was admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital where his condition is critical.

Raveendran, an agricultural labourer, is survived by his wife and four children.
