“Government-run institutions are delivering poor education, forcing the poor to migrate to private institutions,” said Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, during his visit to Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT)

The minister was speaking at the launch function of Sharada Mayyam, a women students’ facility centre, at the college.

Inaugurating the centre, Javadekar said that the Central government’s proposed new educational policy will be beneficial for future generations. “Education should not stop with information or skill development. The ultimate aim of education is to make good citizens. There is a great need to empower women with education, for when you teach a girl, a family is taught. The participation of women and all classes of people will make our country prosperous,” he added.

“Swayam, the new Indian MOOCs, which will have about 500 courses, will be absolutely free. It is an innovation which adds value and makes the nation richer,” he said. He also requested faculties to stay updated regularly with continuous training.
