CCMC officials evict encroachers and reclaim Rs 9.15 cr land

In a major drive, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation officials have evicted encroachers from corporation-owned land. In the drive, 1.18 acre of land property, worth about Rs 9.15 crore, were reclaimed and signage boards put up to ward off offenders.

The encroachers of a three-acre plot, which was assigned as corporation playground near Ramakrishna theatre in Koundampalayam, was evicted and the land reclaimed.

Likewise 2 cents of land in 8th street of 100 feet road, which was encroached upon by a private business man to run his garage was evicted, and 14 cents land in Siva Nagar in Kalapatti, which was found encroached by local temple authorities was also reclaimed.

About 31 cents of land near Saravanampatti, where hutments were pitched was also evicted.

“The drive was carried out across all the five zones of the civic body. Corporation officials have erected signage boards denoting that it is corporation property in all the reclaimed lands,” said K Vijayakarthikeyan, corporation commissioner.
