Five girls, hailing from Odisha, were rescued by a police team from that state, with the help of local police, from a textile mill in Sulur on the outskrits, where they were reportedly kept as bonded labourers.

Based on a complaint by a woman from a village in Kandhamal in Odisha that her daughter was brought to the city and kept in bonded labour in a mill, a team of police reached here.

With the assistance of local police, the team, led by SI Vaidehi, carried out a search in the mill in Pallapalayam near Sulur and found five minor girls, including the woman’s daughter, working
there as bonded labourers, police said.

The rescued girls were taken to their native village early today.
