Rally to select and groom outstanding sports talents

The Boys Sports Company (BSC) of the Madras Regiment Centre in Wellington is conducting a rally aimed at selecting and grooming talented young sports people to make a mark in national and international events.

BSC, a joint venture between the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Indian Army, will nurture talented youngsters from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in boxing, volley ball and athletics.

The selection rally for enrollment into BSC will be held at Wellington from December 19 to 24 for the age group of 11 to 14 years. Outstanding youngsters of 15 and 16 years will be considered as exception cases based on their levels of competence, a BSC release said here today.

Schoolchildren who have participated in School Games Federation of India-level or equivalent sports events have to produce certificates.

A minimum of 5th standard pass is mandatory and the selected candidates will be provided with free accommodation and education till class 10, with sports training under SAI coaches.

On reaching 17 and a-half years, they will have the option of enrolling in the Regiment through the sports quota based on their performance and subject to meeting requirements, said the release.
