District Collector T.N. Hariharan has warned of stern action against those who sell liquor till December 8. “All TASMAC outlets and others licensed centres linked with TASMAC should be closed till December 8,” the Collector said in a statement today.

The State Government had ordered closure of all TASMAC outlets and licensed centres following the death of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday.

In spite of all this, some outlets were seen doing business today flouting government order. An outlet on the the Geetha Hall Road near Davey and Co Lane opposite the Coimbatore Railway junction was selling liquor in broad day light. People were lining up in front of the shop early this morning to buy liquor.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Saibaba Temple, Singanallur and Gandhipuram.

However, these things are not new to the city as some of the outlets were found doing brisk business during dry days Gandhi Jayanthi, Independence Day and Republic Day.

Even during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, illegal sales were reported in the district as the outlets sold liquor with half downed shutters.

A senior government official said all outlets were being monitored and action would be taken against those who flout the rules.
