Sanitary workers from city headed to help cyclone-hit Chennai

150 sanitary workers of the Coimbatore Corporation will head to Chennai tonight at 8 pm to help the public faced with the aftermath of Cyclone Vardah.

The municipal administration has ordered all districts corporations to send their sanitary workers to help the people of Chennai people in this distressing situation.

Dr K. Santhosh Kumar, Chief Health Officer, said, “The sanitary workers—all men—will be leaving by bus tonight. A senior official will go later to monitor the situation and if found necessary, will extend the stay of the workers.”

“We are seeking sponsors to provide basic amenities kit with medicines, food, water and other necessities,” said Baranidaran S from Arc foundation, an NGO.
