A 30-year-old woman today attempted to immolate herself alleging delay in tracing her husband, whom she said has been missing since last few days.

Jancy Jaleena, resident of Malumichampatti, had lodged a complaint with the all-women police station at Perur that her husband Franklin had left home a few days ago, leaving her and their seven-year old daughter in the lurch. She alleged that police failed to take any action to bring back her husband.

Police said she came to the collectorate this morning to bring the issue to the attention of the Collector.

Jancy poured kerosene, hidden in her bag and tried to light a match-stick. However, police on duty, overpowered her and took her to the nearest police station for interrogation.
